We are a Specialist NFP Insurance Brokerage servicing a large NZ-wide client base of Not-For-Profit organisations.  Our custom-made wordings are especially designed to cover the unique risks associated with your organisation and offer wider coverage than normally available in the local insurance market.  Backed by the likes of Chubb NZ and Lloyd’s of London, our prices are extremely competitive and any claims are supported by a team of top NZ assessors and solicitors.

We aren’t governed by overseas investors or driven by shareholder returns, which allows us to adopt our own Tithing Model in support of NZ missions and community ventures.

We are also longstanding members of Insurance Advisernet NZ (IANZ), a large national network of independent insurance brokers with significant collective buying power and access to exclusive insurance management solutions.  With IANZ, our clients get the added assurance of:

Why do we care?

In 2017, we were presented with an opportunity to purchase the Bureau Church Scheme from the previous owner, who was looking for like-minded people to takeover the company reins.  Amazingly, the same year, we had been looking for ways to widen our insurance offering and reach those at the coal face of NZ society.

2022 starts another new chapter, as we partner with Craig Gudsell from The Brokerage in support of his NFP clients.

Our motto is “Good People, helping Good People” and our mission is to use our experience honed from years in the insurance sector to help protect organisations, whose good works are the backbone of our communities.

We aren’t focused on sales targets.  We are simply here to use our knowledge and industry reputation in support of ‘good works’ that make a difference in peoples’ lives.

Mark Hurren – Principal and Chartered Qualified Insurance Broker (CQIB)

Mark has worked in the insurance industry since leaving school and has acquired over 35 years’ experience across both insurer and broking sectors.  He is a Chartered Qualified Insurance Broker, Registered Financial Adviser and has a vested interest in Bureau Insurance.

His career included development of Insurance Schemes for industry groups and the management of sales and profitability for the Wellington branch of NZ’s largest insurer.  Consequently, he is a skilled negotiator and uses his in-depth knowledge of insurer requirements to present each client’s risk profile in the most beneficial way.

He believes insurance is one of the most important contracts you will ever arrange, yet it is probably given the least amount of attention.  As a qualified ‘Insurance Risk Specialist’, his aim is to help you identify risk exposures and plan ways to reduce them with policies especially designed for Church and Charity related organisations.

Mark has also been involved in church leadership, men’s ministries and home groups and appreciates the nuances of the Not-For-Profit sector.  His desire is to help safeguard ministries and charitable works in the wider community.

Matt Gee – Senior Risk Specialist and Professional Qualified Insurance Broker (PQIB)

Matt is an experienced insurance professional, with over 20 years in the industry. including a senior role within an international broking firm.  He has the expertise and knowledge to provide practical risk advice and tailored solutions to best fit your needs.

Matt has a bachelor’s degree focused on Business Administration and Management from Lincoln University, which compliments his analytical skills and understanding of Not–For–Profit Insurance.

Matt was originally brought up in the Marlborough farming community until his parents got the call to become lead pastors in a mainstream denomination.  His focus is therefore the protection of your organisation’s charitable activities and he relishes the opportunity to partner with your leadership team to help you minimise risks associated with your mission.

Bernie Kane – Director

Bernie has worked in the insurance industry for 40 years.  After 23 years culminating in leadership positions within one of NZ’s largest insurance companies, he moved to insurance broking so he could be dealing direct with customers.

For the last 10 years Bernie has owned his own broking company, Meridian General Brokers Limited.  As a business owner, he knows first-hand the challenges faced by those who run businesses and Not-For-Profit organisations.  He also has a vested interest in ensuring that customers’ interests are kept front of mind and they receive excellent service.

Bernie is a Chartered Insurance Broker, a Registered Financial Adviser and holds a Diploma in Business (Insurance Management).
