We are an exclusive Church and Charity insurance brokerage, servicing a large NZ-wide client base.  Our policies are specially designed to cover the unique risks associated with religious and charitable organisations and offer higher limits than those available in the local insurance market.  Backed by the likes of Chubb NZ and Lloyd’s of London, we offer wide coverage, competitive pricing and a claims service supported by top NZ assessors.

We are also longstanding members of Insurance Advisernet NZ (I.A.N.Z.), a large national network of independent insurance brokers with significant collective buying power and access to exclusive insurance management solutions.  Our clients get the added assurance of:

Why we care?

In 2017, we were presented with an opportunity to purchase the Bureau Church Scheme from the previous owner, who was looking for like-minded people to takeover the company reins.  Amazingly, the same year, we had been looking for ways to widen our insurance offering and reach those at the coal face of NZ society.

Our motto is “Good People, Helping Good People” and our mission is to use our experience honed from years in the insurance sector to help protect organisations, whose good works are the backbone of our communities.

We aren’t driven by sales targets or shareholder returns.  We are simply here to use our knowledge and industry reputation in support of ‘good works’ that make a difference in peoples’ lives.

Mark Hurren – Principal

Mark has worked in the insurance industry since leaving school and has acquired over 30 years’ experience across both insurer and broking sectors.  He is a Chartered Insurance Broker, Registered Financial Adviser and has a vested interest in Bureau Insurance.

His career included development of Insurance Schemes for industry groups and the management of sales and profitability for the Wellington branch of NZ’s largest insurer.  Consequently, he is a skilled negotiator and uses his in-depth knowledge of insurer requirements to present each client’s risk profile in the most beneficial way.

He believes insurance is one of the most important contracts you will ever arrange, yet it is probably given the least amount of attention.  As a qualified ‘Insurance Risk Specialist’, his aim is to help you identify risk exposures and plan ways to reduce them with policies especially designed for Church and Charity related organisations.

Mark has also been involved in church leadership, men’s ministries and home groups and appreciates the nuances of the Not-For-Profit sector.  His desire is to help safeguard ministries and charitable works in the wider community.

Malcolm Meyer – Broker and Claims Expert

Malcolm has 40 years industry experience, which included servicing customers directly for a large insurer and broker.  He has a wealth of product knowledge and prides himself on fostering long-term client relationships, helping to protect their ever changing needs.

Malcolm also has excellent insurer relationships which benefits clients at claim time, as he manages the process and keeps all parties well informed.

He values the opportunity to help church and charity organisations maintain their community focus.

Deb Kirk – Director, Accounts and Admin

Deb has worked in the insurance industry since leaving school apart from some time out to bring up children.  With over 30 years’ experience, it’s no surprise she makes everything look effortless.

She keeps things ticking for the team and looks after payments, premium funding, declaration follow ups and anything administrative.

Bernie Kane about - bernie kane bureau insurance - About

Bernie Kane – Director

Bernie has worked in the insurance industry for nearly 40 years.  After 23 years culminating in leadership positions within one of NZ’s largest insurance companies, he moved to insurance broking so he could be dealing direct with customers.

For the last 10 years Bernie has owned his own broking company, Meridian General Brokers Limited.  As a business owner, he knows first-hand the challenges faced by those who run businesses and Not-For-Profit organisations.  He also has a vested interest in ensuring that customers’ interests are kept front of mind and they receive excellent service.

Bernie is a Chartered Insurance Broker, a Registered Financial Adviser and holds a Diploma in Business (Insurance Management).
